Yea, I noticed him when looking at the Louisiana rankings.
Not counting JaMarr Chase...the top 5 uncommitted guys left are Eddie Smith, Glenn Beal, Lawrence Keys, Aaron Brule, & Joseph Foucha.

Since 2019 is loaded, might it be a good strategy to only take 24 and use the 25th as an early entry in 2019 class

Might not even crack the top 10 in recruiting with Mario gone.

I'd take a chance on Foucha. Not like it matters star wise anymore. Get the best player available.

While certainly everyone wants to have as good of a recruiting class as possible, this is a fictitious threshold that has no meaning.
It's more for internet bragging rights than for anything else.

Can you give me the average rankings for Alabama, Ohio State, and Florida State? Throw in Auburn for like 9 of the last 10 national champions. You will find that they are ranked in the top 6-7 over the last 5 years.
Clemson had a great run, of course this is based on a 4 and 6 ranked class in 14 and 15..

Losing mario is not internet bragging rights. We ar are missing out on great players. That’s another reason why we have 4 loses a year and Clemson and them are winning.

Fake news. These teams only get like 15 players a year. There average is a lot higher than LSU’s.

With a strong and deep in state class next year why not save at least on slot to be used later?

Talent isn’t, and hasn’t been, the issue at LSU.
And I’m not saying rankings don’t matter. They do.
But to claim there is any measurable difference between No. 8 and No. 11 is ludicrous.
Just being in “the top 10” has no meaning.

Ok. But your statement was you needed a top ranked class to win championships. Clemson and Oklahoma (although they only have a playoff appearance) prove you don't have to be in the top ten every year.
I think Auburn's average for the decade is around 9.
FSU, LSU and USC all average around sixth this decade and all woefully underperformed in the final rankings. I think Ohio State's average ranking this decade is around 6 as well. So, what's the difference between us and them? They've certainly had a lot more success than we have.
Recruiting rankings isn't the be all and end all you want it to be. It's fun to follow, but it doesn't paint the entire picture.
You need talented players, solid coaching, and good player development to win.
Talented players can be found all throughout the player rankings. It remains to be seen if this staff has the eye for talent and the ability to develop that talent, though. Only time will tell.

This. Well said. Much better than my (probably incoherent) rambling above.

Sorry. I posted before reading the complete thread. I fully agree.

I'm with German. It matters. Now it appears we won't finish as strong as we'd predicted. The Surtain/Joseph/chase/Goodrich or Foster finish was our saving grace.

I'd add Tahj Samuel to that list, even if he committed to McNeese. A bit small for linebacker, but the kid can ball.
If the 25 count is hard (no backwards counting), then it's better to take a chance on one of these guys then only sign 24. Otherwise you're giving away a spot. And besides, special teams always needs bodies.

We always recruit well, except at quarterback. We have got to get that part of the program fixed. I think Myles Brennan is really going to be special. I sure hope so. No knock on Lowell Narcisse but I haven't seen anything of him. Assuming this class has one opening and there's Beal, Williams, Foucha, Washington and Smith... That's an impressive list. I don't think you can go wrong with any of those.
