This is going nowhere and will be over a year from now still being kicked around by laeters....he'll be fined probably around $20k, yet we will have spends years and probably iver a million in resources.

If he stole a bunch of cash or some other shite, then yeah..but this is just dumb.

JBE goes down to Cuba and costs us 100k..for NOTHING....and we want to look back years and find out if an inmate cooked for the leader of the troopers?

the abuse isn't shocking, the most aggravating part of it all is our state's answer is always raise taxes when you could easily reign in spending simply by looking at all the wastes in spending from abuse like this. Sure it'd probably be just a drop in the bucket but don't constantly whine about being broke when you can't monitor the spending habits of these guys.

I dont think you're getting it...the FBI is involved. They dont get involved unless they think something doesnt pass the smell test....

Lets review what the accusations are.

The state spent $85,486 to send 14 state troopers and two Department of Public Safety employees on the October 2016 trip to San Diego. The audit found that nearly $13,000 more than necessary was spent on the trip. Four troopers drove an LSP vehicle instead of flying, and their detour to the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas cost an extra $5,607.

Edmonson used troopers and state vehicles to run personal errands for him and his family, and to perform maintenance on family members' vehicles.


The City of New Orleans paid for hotel rooms during Carnival season from 2013 to 2016 for state troopers who lived outside the city. The audit found proof that Edmonson requested additional rooms and allowed his family and friends to stay in them free of charge. In 2014, he received a reimbursement for a hotel room even though the city had paid for his room at another hotel.


Edmonson and his family lived on the Department of Public Safety compound in Baton Rouge from February 2008 to March 2017 without legal authority,


Edmonson should have declared the housing as income for tax purposes. It placed the value of the benefit at $43,720..possible tax evasion


Edmonson may have received free meals from the DPS cafeteria, a violation of state law, and used a department credit card to pay for meals with approval from the Department of Administration, which goes against state policy.



At Edmonson's direction, employees with DPS fleet operations performed washed, detailed and performed minor repairs on his personal vehicles, the audit indicates. The former superintendent and other troopers also used dry cleaning services at the Governor's Mansion at no charge while also receiving a stipend from State Police to clean their uniforms. Both are possible violations of state law.
