There's still the never ending free throw barrage if a team reaches the bonus with 12 minutes left in a half, even if that foul number to reach the bonus was increased to 8 or 9. A reset would lead to less foul shots, without question. Which means less stoppages.

5 fouls in a quarter should put a team in the 2-shot foul bonus. Get rid of the 1-and-1. The defensive team should not be rewarded in any way for fouling, which the 1-and-1 does, in my opinion.

If you want even less foul shots, then move the bonus number to 6 fouls. There's a lot of ways to play around with this.
