First generation might work hard
But when they figure out they can get a similar check for doing almost nothing that will change quickly

Why should they get a free "Welcome to America" card? Sounds like a great potential market for fake families to be created.
How about this...come in thru proper channels to become a citizen or get the frick out...and take your little dog too.

There is a rational argument for chain migration
The only rationale for ANY immigration is = "do we need them?"
The only exception to that is in the immediate nuclear family - parents and minor children.
If we NEED their aunts and uncles and nephews, then good, but let that be determined by needs of the USA, not by 'desires' of the immigrant.

I think the same rationale should be used for following other laws. If one member of your family has a drivers license, the whole extended family should be able to drive. If one member has a concealed carry permit, the entire extended family should be good to pack. Makes sense to me. Anything short of that is just bringing back a form of Jim Crow laws, or "separate but equal". The only reason someone could be against that is because of their racism.

That would be the only compassionate thing to do.

By this reasoning, we should throw entire families in prison when one member commits a crime.

Bingo.
Democrats support chain migration for the same reason they are against voter ID laws.

Chain migration has an irreparable flaw. It has no logical stopping point. If I come from Mexico via legal channels, my family in Mexico is also currently entitled to join me. That includes my mom and dad, my grandparents, my siblings and their immediate family as well. So from one legal entry, the door is opened from dozens upon dozens of others as well. It's bullshite and has to stop
