My wife and I are headed to Laguna Beach in June for our 20th anniversary. We were recommended the Deck at Laguna Beach for drinks and the Driftwood Kitchen nearby for dinner. Maybe you can ditch your kids and do the same.

Yes, this x 100000. Gorgeous view, especially. And you can walk right down to the beach from it and then come back up.

I don't think they take reservations and it is very popular, so keep in mind you may have to wait for a spot to open up. But really great people watching.

I 2nd Griffith Observatory. There's plenty of good spots with very few people to watch the sunset if you don't mind hiking up and away from the big crowds. Of the times I've gone, I preferred getting to my spot ~30 minutes before sunset. The place is a madhouse when the sun goes down.

Your wife will probably like West Hollywood. Lots of trendy restaurants. Lots of gays North Hollywood/Burbank where all of the studios are can be cool.

Definitely recommend as much coastal beach visiting you can fit in. I'll be in San Diego in a few weeks, and will finally make the effort to get out of the city and visit La Jolla since I never have.

OH - In L.A... a drive over to Santa Monica for dinner is great sight seeing.
