I really think some people just have restless spirits. I'm one of them. I am happy doing just about anything. I'll clean a toilet for 8 hours a day if I can do that and go home without dealing with bullshite or drama.
But the tedium of dealing with people who take themselves too seriously or who spend their whole lives trying to impress people or be more than they are wears me out to the point I start looking around after a few years, knowing that wherever I land will just be a short term reprieve because people suck everywhere you go. The good part is I have done a bunch of different things and have learned a lot and enjoyed a lot. The bad part is I look flakey AF to potential employers. I'm right there with you right now in the discomfort ditch. We will both find a way out. No doubt. Just know when you jump, it probably won't be to something you love forever.

I think it’s normal. You can’t really learn or get better by staying in one place.

It's the hopping industries that gets me. I can be excited about anything really. I love new things. Just HATE being trapped with nasty people 8 hours a day. I like to work. Staying home all the time is not good for me. I need to be doing something around people.

Find something else to do. Seriously. I was in a similar boat as you - I had family obligations, military obligations and just couldn't do the hours expected.
And it wasn't that I was getting paid all that well to begin with. So, there wasn't even that motivation. But, that was on the management team. I loved the work - I really enjoyed the nuts and bolts of litigation work. I'm in a much better place now.

I'm fat, almost 40, and am ugly AF. I like to work, but I need to make a realistic wage. Hanging my hat on looks is a terrible idea.

It only took me 5 horrible years after passing the bar to gtfo. It's miserable. If you have no attachments, get away to clear your mind.

I hated what I did for years. So I quit. I went and trained for a year learning how to cut trees. The ends and outs. I always loved working outdoors, and the feeling of doing a job like that felt better. Went home and no stress.
Then I got my own truck, own equipment, and worked on my own. Built my own company. It took a few years of hard work, sweat, and miserable heat. But now I spend a lot of my time just going to job sites, doing contracts, etc. Have others work for me. If I want to go work I do, if I don't, I pay day labor and send one of my guys out with people I pay nothing to work basically. It's beautiful
I have more time for myself, for my GF and her kid, to hang out with friends, to enjoy life. It's an amazing feeling. Owning your own business, if you are willing to put the time and work in for it in the beginning. It's amazing. Will never sit in a cubicle again.

I was in the same boat when I worked at a law firm. I was so miserable that when driving in my car if an upbeat, happy song I liked came on I would have to change the station because I couldn't get into anything that reminded me of being happy. What really prompted me to change was looking at the guys in their 50's who were still doing the same shite; I didn't want to look up one day and be like them and still billing hours in my 50's. Looking back on it, I would have probably lost my girlfriend at the time (now my wife and mother of our one year old boy) had I stayed much longer because of how much my unhappiness with my job was affecting me outside of work. I don't know what kind of law you practice, but I was a tax lawyer and moved into Controller/CFO work when leaving the law.

I rack my brain daily, at night, over a cocktail, trying to figure out what's next. So far I got nothing.... I work in finance and I despise every single minute of it.
