Yep. Maryland football I'll never understand. You should be able to lock down the DMV and Baltimore, and that's all you need. Hell you can get 7 or 8 a year just from Dematha and Good Counsel.

Instead, Penn State, WVU, everyone else comes in there and gets them. Bama lately as well.

Yea, Maryland and UNC have always baffled me. At least Illinois has some real football history. Unlike Rutgers, Maryland has been in a top flight conference for virtually its entire history and not only is itself a great producer of high school footballers, it is near other states with a whole hell of a lot of talent (VA, NJ, PA).

I just did a quick glance at current New Jersey products in college football - Minkah Fitzpatrick, Quenton Nelson, Rashan Gary, Kareem Walker, Mike Gesicki, Brandon Wimbush, Jordan Fuller, etc., etc. That would be a very good team if anyone ever figured out how to crack that nut at Rutgers. Just the Catholic schools alone (Paramus Catholic, St. Peters, Bergen Catholic, and Don Bosco, St. John Vianney) could probably produce a very good college football team.

It doesn't help the football program, when their head coach literally alienates the whole South part of State, and the nearest Major City, that has talent(st.Louis/eastl).

When Lovie came in, he refused to do coaches shows on the southern cities and on st.louis radio. Which is what every Illini coach has always done, to keep the boosters and keep program relevant in the area.

What did he do after realizing he f'd up, some shite billboards in st.louis/east st.louis area, and finally some coaches shows scheduled for next season.

Lovie is clueless when it comes to CFB, it was a horrendous hire.

UNC

Not nearly the same as Rutgers, Maryland, Illinois etc. They compete for in-state talent with 3 other ACC schools and another 3 FBS schools. North Carolina is also in the southeast so the state gets poached by Clemson and the SEC. It's very difficult to get in-state talent in NC. Not saying it's easy in Maryland, NJ, and Illinois...but it's not as competitive as what UNC deals with.

With that being said, I think UNC has underachieved in the past based on the talent on the roster, and I believe they'll be pretty good again in football in 2019.
