Grey triggerfish. All I have known it as
Posted on 1/11/18 at 6:58 pm to puse01
meat is white and tasty, very good eating but the skin is a PITA and dulls a fillet knife after just 2 fish.
its like leather and hard to get through.
they are as good as your friend made them out to be and used to be considered as bait stealing trash fish along with spade fish which are also great eating.

Unlike our favorite multi-name fish, the Ling, Triggerfish only have 1 name. They are also really good to eat if you can get get past all the bones. Lot of bones.

Are you serious?!? I tried to look up the regs and it isn’t easy to find. Something about the season opened on the 1st and closes on the 16th. But then it reopens March 1st.
frick I’ve got several spots that are covered up with nothing but triggers. I was hoping to get out and fill the freezer but shite it ain’t worth it for one fricking fish.

How is this possible, I have not worked in the GOM for decades but there were so many on every structure we considered them a nuisance.
Must be people started keeping them due to the endangered ARS being off limits.

I think it was Alabama whose wildlife and fisheries did a study showing the increased numbers of red snapper on their artificial reefs is crippling the trigger fish because a triggerfish can't protect its clutch of eggs against their population.

Snapper which really never were a western gulf fish are considered endangered despite being at the highest population in history are eating a native species eggs at a rate so high that they are now endangered, and FedGovs solution is dont catch the snapper?

Fed government at work here. The calculation to determine catch pounds and limits is completely asinine and hasn't been reassessed in years.
