arkangel

i liked arkangel but thought they could have done more with the part where she was finally doing something dangerous (running away, hitchiking with strangers) with no way to track her or keep her safe. i thought that was the whole point is that her mom cried wolf so many times for no reason that when something bad really did happen to her, she was no longer able to be found.

metalhead

i watched metalhead twice. it was definitely bleak but enjoyed how realistic the bots were. those general dynamics videos always freaked me out..esp after 'dont be evil' google bought the company. if there's someone who would be 'sending the dogs out' my money is on google. that episode is definitely creepy as frick, esp the multiple ways the AI has to track the 'victims'. a minor plothole - why didnt the dog call for backup after it was initially wounded or when it had her trapped in the tree instead of the end?

hang the dj

i didnt enjoy this one as much as other people seem to in the other thread. probably because i missed the tinder/online dating phenom for the most part. even though i was divorced 10 years ago, i met my new wife because she worked in the same building as me..not through technology/dating/hookup apps. it was a good story, just didn't really engage me.

uss callister

definitely had that whole twilight zone vibe where the little boy is the 'king' and no one would dare offend him or else he would kill them. i thought the heroine was alison brie at first she was definitely channeling her look in some of those scenes. it had some great one-liners though "OH MY frick" and "YOU WENT TOO FAR WHEN YOU STOLE MY PUSSY"

Why didn't the dog shoot at her when she was in the tree?

Hmm, makes you wonder what other tricks it had that would keep her up the tree.

And I personally didn't like the end twist of crocodile. If the insurance agent had to talk and use music/smells to people to get them to remember accurately, I have a very hard time accepting that a guinea pig can provide them what they need.

Well, we don't know that it worked. Just saw them preparing to try with the guinea pig and then the ugly lady was at the school play and cops came in, but they might have been there for some other reason and she was just a victim of her own paranoia at that point.

I guess I'm the only one that didn't really care for USS Callister... the Star Trek cheesiness was a bit much for me. And they had the girl in the real world steal the DNA back from the captain, but if he gets woken up and is brought back from the game, he can just collect more. No one in the real world knows to guard against it. Then there will be more clones of all these people in another closed off game.

So they hooked the guinea pig up to the machine to identify the lady in Crocodile? Did it understand English to answer the questions? Good episode otherwise.

ETA: didn't read, same question has already been asked

Yeah a Guinea pig has to have the ability to remember shite for 5 minutes max.

Arkangel - Takes the helicopter mom to the extreme. It's unreal how kids can't just be kids these days. I was certain the mom was gonna see her kid being raped or some shite and be helpless to it at some point.

USS Callister - This one fell flat to me. Probably because I don't care for the Star Trek genre and I felt like it was a rehash on White Christmas.

Crocodile - I couldn't get past the fact that the girl was maybe 85 lbs and choked out a dude twice her size with ease. Other than that I liked it.

Metalhead - I feel like that was the first episode of Black Mirror that wasn't telling a cautionary tale. It was just an action flick. Still liked it.

Hang the DJ - Very well done. I was married well before internet dating became a thing but I liked it.

you could tell she had a lust for murder at that point and was plotting how she would take those frickers down.

not only that, but once he's converted it into the system, why does he need the physical material? couldn't he use what he's already converted again?

One thing I can't get over on Callister and White Christmas....Who fricking cares if a computer generated version of yourself is trapped in an egg or a computer game?

Yeah, you would think he would have some sort of backup copy of the "character" that could be re-inserted.

His physical body also might end up dying since he can't exit the game.

I don't understand the ending. The whole episode takes place in the app, and that is how they choose good vs. bad matches? And in the real world, the simulations that go rogue prove to be a good match?

I took it as he was going to die IRL since he couldn't exit the game. I don't like sci-fi genres but that episode was good.

You said this before, but this episode was nothing like White Christmas.

The closest to White Christmas this season was Black Museum.

The simulation was run 1000 times and each time those two fought off the knowledge that the system knew who was right for them. They decided on their own they wanted each other 998 of the 1000 times.

The whole idea of a computer generated representation of yourself being held hostage is most definitely the idea in both episodes.

I haven't seen Black Museum yet so there's that

it is a common theme that they are using in a bunch of episodes. A copy of your consciousness in a digital space. Hang the DJ plays with the same idea.

In 1000 simulations, they went rogue and ended up together anyway 998 times despite the simulations matching them apart. Hence the 99.8% match.

There were definitely some hints as well that it was all a simulation and not reality.
