I'm not arguing that LA is a better place to live than TN or TX, it's not. But the tax argument is overplayed. This is a few years old but LA 7.6%, TX 7.6%, TN 7.3%

But you have to look at what you get for your money. If you are taxed the same you should have about the same level of infrastructure per capita of population and GDP.
Louisiana has had money in the past, but instead of investing in infrastructure to attract more diverse sectors, it threw money into retarded programs that are more aimed at getting votes than growing the economy. Then, when the oil prices went bust the governor suddenly made getting jobs into Louisiana his focus. Who in the ever-loving frick would move their billion dollar corporate HQ to the state that traditionally is corrupt at worst and at best can't provide almost basic needs for its population?
