He got what little remained time to get out. Made a fool of the new leader of the first order. And gave himself to the living force where Yoda just showed the power to interact with the physical plane. It's full on space wizard.
I'll take resisting dealing with your nephew in an easy way over becoming Palpatine's apprentice to attempt a clone and energy being assassination (Dark Empire for you none EU folks) as a way to go forward.
