Considering getting a security camera

Namely the Nest outdoor cameras for back and front doors. Anyone have any better recommendation for security cameras. I think the draws for me are the ability to speak through it, it gives you alerts when there’s movement, stores it on a cloud, etc. I’m green when it comes to these things. What should I be looking for?

I prefer the small spy cameras that you can easily hide in things like lamps, stuffed animals and toilet seats.

Not if you do it right.

Depends on where you want to put it. Ring is good. We have Arlos. Not too happy with them but they are ok.

We have Samsung cameras. We can't speak through them (not sure why We'd need to?) but we can view them on an app. They have really high quality night vision, also. We got 8 from Sam's for $500 or $600 I think.

Mostly because of packages being delivered, and the occasional I don’t want to go to the door thing, but also to scare the frick out of anyone looking for trouble that they’re being watched. It supposedly alerts your phone real time with movement.

Ones that cost less than $350

Oh I see. So you can talk through your phone to the cameras? I can see the value in that. We have dogs that do the talking for us

Hey Cubbs. Merry Christmas to you and yours. I have never been on your cameras....yet.

Something to be aware of: it was hard for us to find someone to install our cameras. People want to install only if you purchase the cameras from them. We ended up finding someone to do it for $100/camera. Installation cost more than the cameras.

Merry Christmas! I wish I was making this up but we caught (on camera) someone who took a dump in the backyard of an abandoned property near ours carrying the bucket of poop and eventually dumping it on the sidewalk outside our house this morning. This is what the early stages of gentrification is like.

Have a Nest at the front door. Well worth the $300 and took about an hour to install.

I have 3 outdoor nest cameras that work great. There is a monthly fee to store data. I let mine expire after free trial. It still sends push notifications if it detects movement or sound. Good product.

Did you plug into an outside outlet or run it through the wall/ceiling/etc?

I have Lorex.
Decent cameras but customer service is a nightmare should you ever need it. That being said find cameras that RECORD at @ least 1080p and use POE (power over ethernet). This is one cable that provides power and data transmission. Makes install loads easier too. Hope this helps some.

I just recently installed a set of cameras at my grandmother's house. I went with EZVIZ (Amazon link) cameras with a 1TB hard drive. The cameras produce an excellent picture during the day and at night. I can check the perimeter of her house from my phone anyway in the world now. Probably one of the best $250 investments I've ever made.
