If he did VII and is doing IX, why get someone else for VIII?

Who would want to direct episode 9? There’s no resistance left, Darth Emo and Captain kangaroo are now leading a government? I guess? Maybe Kylo and Rey can go have coffee and they can make this one into a Rom-Com because move on fanboys get over it.

Because Disney doesn't think they should follow the same formula that has made the Marvel films so successful, which is developing a coherent story line for all 3 films BEFORE making them.

He wasn't supposed to do IX. But Disney realized that Colin Trevorrow sucks

Meh, TLJ is basically an MCU movie - Campy humor, undeveloped characters, and nothing of consequence for the overall story

But at least with the MCU I'm interested to find out where it all ends up. Can honestly say I don't feel that way about Star Wars after TLJ.

That's probably because the MCU started mediocre and has remained mediocre where as Star Wars started out incredibly and has fallen into mediocrity

Because Original Trilogy set a precedent that different directors worked better. Then Lucas did all the prequels. Not to mention they are doing these films at a much after rate. Only man who pulled off this massive success and directed all films was Jackson in Lord of the Rings

This is one of my main problems with TLJ. At the end, what's left of The Resistance can all fit on the Falcon. That's it. Oh and the Millennium Falcon is the only military hardware they have left.

In 9 we are supposed to believe that a few people and a barely trained jedi are supposed to somehow prevail over The First Order.

Rian screwed JJ Abrams over hard by painting him into a corner that there are no reasonable way out of.

Nah, you're just supposed to believe the barely trained Jedi can do all that since she can literally move mountains and is unbeatable already while the First Order is run by an idiot general that is now getting constantly spousally abused by his new nineteen year old, bipolar, crybaby boss.

I'm hoping IX starts with Rey waking up from a dream she was having on her way to Ach-To to train with Luke.

I guess a major time jump is the only real option. That distress signal they sent out will have been picked up by other people who will come to help and form an alliance.
