The beauty of a shutdown right now is that this is already a dead time for a lot of federal offices.
It is the week between Christmas and New Years. There are already statute holidays declared and a bunch of people will have already taken leave anyway to take advantage of the short week.
The period between Veteran’s Day and MLK Day has so many holidays that you are unlikely to see any work done from November to January.

Plus the leave year (for many agencies including mine) ends January 5. Which means (except for very rare cases) if you don't use your leave by then you lose it and can't get it restored.
I have at least two on my staff who left on Monday and I won't see them for two more weeks.
So yes it's quite dead around the office.
