OP, I’m confused are you pro NN or not? Do you want it charged based off consumption like the utilities you mentioned?

I’m for an open and free market void of government regulations.
The OP simply states that the internet is not a utility.

Yeah. I didn't comprehend it.
Caught in what Shorty? What exactly did I get caught doing?
There is no game Shorty. You asked for someone to characterize why this market space is like a monopoly. After previously going from thread to thread talking about wireless internet and DSL, as if it is somehow an adequate competitive force in this marketplace, as if it is even widely available for most consumers. Throwing out buzz words without any context and then posting emojis at posters as if that is some sort of salient point. Using broad brushing language that fails to acknowledge the unique distinctions of this market that make it different from a market for 10 dollar widgets.
You got your answer, one that subsequently has gotten more time and effort then clearly you deserve, and instead of engaging you have subsequently began to act more and more immature as the posts go on. devolving more and more into straw men and ad hominems.

But you want it charged like a utility?
Posted on 12/15/17 at 1:42 pm to Veritas
Where did I say this?
I said it wasn’t a utility because it’s not.
So, why would I want it charged as one?

As for discussing how a market can work sans the underlying traits...I would like for you to describe to us which markets currently operate as perfectly competitive markets? Then as we move on to discuss other markets, let's discuss barriers to entry and then let's discuss market share. We can tackle each element you pulled from your shiny new textbook and see exactly which ones you think make ISP so different from any number of other markets.
Finally, if you are arguing on behalf of ISPs being treated as utilities....have you thought through how this would play out?

Which buildings require gas connections? My apartment doesn’t have a gas connection. Why is that a utility?

LOL. You get so annoyed when people won't paly your game.
Sorry dude. I've been down the road with you where you post 5 paragraphs
I take the time to quote elements from every one of them and answer
Then, you respond to MAYBE one of the things. MAYBE.
Like I said. I'm proud of you.
At least you must have taken time to go luck up some shite to come at me with since the last time you tried to talk economics, your mouth melted.

Oh you are correct about that.

Gas is a utility. The owner opted to go electrical instead, man.

The point is, w/o NN it will be charged based off consumption like the utilities you mentioned, in essence acting as a utility whether you deem it one or not.
For the record I see both sides of the argument for and against NN.

If you have gas heat, it's required to be connected to be up to code - I dropped off the "as applicable" but obviously, gas is a utility for people who heat water and their home with gas (eta: and cook).
Again, why? Because it's a public safety and health issue for folks to be burning shite to heat their homes or burning solid/liquid fuel, inside, to cook. Yes, I know some homes have fireplaces and wood stoves, but that's considered supplemental heat - and codes get stricter every year for those, especially houses not grandfathered in for wood heat.
No, wood isn't a utility.

They also opted to give me internet. I’m still confused as to why internet could not possibly be counted as a utility.

I do, too. The pro-NN (well, some of them) raise legitimate concerns that we should be watchful for. However, if it's reasonable to "denanny" the state, and in this case I believe it is, that's an easy tie for me to break.

Utilities are REQUIRED to inhabit the space you rent. Internet is not.
