Considering ed o and tommie robinson were lead recruiters at usc, you would think they have some ties. When you look at cali recruits, you dont even see lsu in the offers.

Cali recruits never stick around for long

Coach O was actually asked about this very thing. He basically said there is so much talent in Louisiana and surrounding area that he doesn't need to recruit outside the south.

Why should we fly to California to recruit kids from 2000 miles away when we have more talent in Louisiana, Texas, and Florida than we can sign?
Some of you must be in Jr High to ask such ridiculous questions.

Not a ridiculous question, but LSU needs to put the fence up before they worry about California.
Ultimately if you want to be a national power year in and year out, you want a pipeline in every major recruiting hotbed though, that includes California.

Why would a top recruit want to leave California for Louisiana? I'm not trying to start trouble here. I'm asking an honest question.

Why would
Well, they leave beautiful, sunny Florida all the time to come to LSU. Having lived in Cali myself, I can attest that it's not all good. But then again I wasn't offered a football god status at USC either...

Florida is the southeast just like Louisiana. Much of Florida is Bible Belt just like Louisiana. California is a different animal. Plus it’s 2000 miles away. The proof is in the pudding. No top player is leaving California for Louisiana

Why recruit Cali when we have great connections to Louisiana, Texas, and Florida. There's no need to look that far.

Wildfires preventing our California invasion....

it's called the 80/20 rule
Do you spend 80% of your time on 20% of the business or 80% of the time in your own backyard with better athletes
Recruits, want family and friends to see them play, Cali recruits, if they come near this area, ummmm they goto BAMA because they want to win it all..... (Unfortunately a proven winner)
Why waste your Time Competing with USC, THE BEACH, Now CAL with CHip Kelly.... Ummm yeahhhh Nooooo

convincing a kid to move from the sunshine state of California to the mosquito infested swamps of Louisiana isn’t exactly easy.

Just to add on to all the other valid points already made, just look at the past decade's results.
LSU has offered a decent amount of nationally ranked Cali recruits in the past with only one or two ever to sign, and iirc, not one ever took a game snap.
Most give the "dream school offer" lip service early on, and by NSD, LSU is not even in their top 3. It's usually wasted time and resource$.
With that said, that 2019 Los Angeles DE Thibodeaux, 5* with Louisiana ties, has already visited and still has CEO chasing him.
