The South is the least racist part of the country because the white people in the South actually see real black people in their day to day lives and view them as actual human beings, the good and the bad.
Many parts of the rest of the country view black people as imaginary political pawns.

This, bigly. In the south, we actually live and work with black people every day. From what I can gather, it's still heavily segregated in other parts.

Growing up in the south, I was honestly shocked how racially segregated the west coast and major cities like Chicago, Boston, etc. are.
I could spend an entire day in Seattle and never see a black person. Plenty of Asians though.
