Would Sumlin take the SMU job?

Assuming he's not offered the Oregon job. I think it would be perfect for him

I think he'd take any job at this point

Would be a solid gig for him. Chad Morris has the right personnel there for Sumlin's old system at Houston.

Hope he ends up at SMU. SMS may have to absolve ties

why?
Aggy paid him $10m to go home. I'd stay home for a year.

He is about to get $10 million deposited into his bank account. I think he can live off that for at least one football season.
If I were him, I'd wait for a year or two - or I'd get out of Texas. If nothing else, for pride. He was one of the biggest recruiters in Texas riding the Swag-Copter around the state, talking to the top talent in the state. After that, being a 53 year old man trying to convince 17 year old kids to pick SMU over UH and UTSA would be hard pill to swallow...especially when you have $10 million dollars in the bank.

Nah, take the buyout, be on the SECN/ESPN for a year and get back in the running next year for decent jobs next year

Isnt he collecting 10 mill in a month? Why would he be desperate. Take a year off and wait if the right gig isnt there.

I don't think he's at that Chip Kelly level where he can just sit out for a year and then easily come back and get a job. It's pretty telling if he can't land one in this cycle.
I could see him going to TV and just staying there

Why? Much easier to land a gig whenever there aren't so many high profile type coaches in the running. And he got a late start to getting his name out there than most
The guy can recruit. That alone will get him a decent job

He gets the money no matter what. he could take a job if he wants and still get it. I still think he will wait it out a year though.

Sumlin's wife and kids have every right to be PISSED if this isn't the best Christmas evar. "I made straight A's and kept my room clean. And you didn't get me a pony, an XBox One or one of those mini cars that runs on gas. Go frick yourself."

Yeah but that buyout allows him to wait for the right oppurtunity
If you rush and just take a job that isn't a good fit, it ends terribly and you don't get another shot

I agree wholeheartedly. he's made about 30 mil. over the last 6 years plus he just got a 10 mil. lump sum buy out. he can take the low pressure job, field a great offense type team and not be expected to win titles. ok, so he has to stoop and only make a measly mil per year or so. with proper financial planning he should be able to live comfortably.

He averaged nine wins a season n a division that included 'bama, Auburn, and LSU. He's not takng a G5 job until all the dust has settled in the P5 world.
If he does end up taking a G5 job he'll only use it as a stepping-stone to his next P5 gig.

His regular season average without Case Keenum and Johnny Manziel is 7 wins.
