it didn't do it for me. I just couldn't get into it really. I'm also surprised that no one, especially on this board, has discussed the heavy handed subtext in the movie.

RE: subtext I think I would have struggled with that as the writer as much as I did as the viewer. If the love story is the base of the story the first layer over the top is communicating through obstacles (central character being mute is her literal obstacle and being unheard by most her metaphorical).
But when you start wandering away from that story to flesh out the plot you find yourself wandering into less universal themes.
