Let them try.
The American people may have their eyes opened to numerous things, including what an “essential government job” is and that the Dems want to shut down the government to help a bunch of illegals but decried people like Rand Paul and Ted Cruz for shutting down the government in an attempt to stop Obamacare.
Christ, isn’t the guy who shovels elephant shite at the National Zoo considered essential?

Yes. Our elephants can't be stepping in shite, and Washington DC certainly shouldn't maintain their own zoo.

I bet a large portion of the people in agriculture would consider the USDA-NRCS essential, but most of those employees will not be working if the government shuts down.
Hell, half of the farmers in south Louisiana probably wouldn't be farming today if it weren't for those programs.
