Honest question

How do you think a coach goes into a QB recruit visit trying to convince them to join a team with other highly touted qb recruits? Does he tell them he has a chance to start? If so what does he say to the current qb’s on roster? “You will start?” Just curious

I think a dishonest question may have been better?

He tells them the truth, I hope. On a team in LSU’s position he tells them they have a chance to start. On a team with a good QB who has the starting position locked down I sell him on coming in, redshirting, learning the system behind a probable NFL QB and still having. Few years of eligibility to start.

Like every coach, he probably tells them they’ll be given every opportunity to compete for the starting job.

Like Luke Del Rio said, he wants to compete at the highest level, whether or not he wins the position. O better step up on all fronts. Not only on the QB position. Everyone wants to go to Bama.

quote:hyperbole. They draw more interest, but many don't want to go to bama. Look at what Devin White said.

He says look at my record of winning championships. Look at the QBs I put in the NFL.
I got 10 or 11 drafted with 2 being No 1’s Overall. Who am I?
The guy they let Miles off the hook for in 2016.

well what Ed O usually says is "you will have a chance to compete" idk if he really sticks to that promise but I think it's much more honorable than lying to kids. it gets the kids who are gonna transfer after a year on the bench away from the program and brings in the guys who are gonna stick around the program to compete for the jobs, get better, and make the team better

If the incumbent is a probable NFL high draft choice then he likely will be a rising junior so you tell the recruit the truth. This guy starts, you may redshirt depending upon the depth chart and your personal development.
Then the job is open for competition the following season and you will have a chance to compete for the position and be the next NFL quarterback in waiting.
If the incumbent and backups are not big time players sell him on a reasonable chance to compete and start next season if you are the best man.
