My wife is also in clinicals and finishes in may. Depends on where they work. RN's in Texas make alot of money, of course life is expensive there as well. I know most hospitals in laffy start at somewhere around $20+ an hour.

My best friend just got her first nursing job, and she is getting 70K/year + 5K signing bonus at a specialized rehab hospital - but she also was at the very top of her class, I'm not sure if that's typical

What part of Texas are you referring to? If you're comparing Houston to Baton Rouge, it is actually more expensive to live in Baton Rouge.

The pay dollar-wise I am sure is more than fine but for the stress and duties (heh I said doodie) involved it's probably underpaid. Nurses and teachers put up with A LOT! Plus the ones that are the best at what they do are awesome, it takes a special personality to be a great teacher or nurse.

Dollarwise living expenses are about equal b/t the two cities but wages on average are MUCH higher in Houston for most white collar jobs.

My wife has an uncle that works at a plant along the river and has told her that they are looking for a nurse and was told $40 an hr. Didnt know how true that would be but her cousin who is a nurse said it is very possible.

I have a friend who is an RN in Plano. And she got bank, and yet pays an assload to live up there.

Hate to tell you being a male has nothing to do with it. When it comes down to it. Job performance. Its whether you can do the job or not
