This is why I’ve always wondered why there was such a powerful bureaucracy. Seems to me that the wizarding population should be pretty libertarian since the government doesn’t need to provide them with anything. They don’t even need roads.

Rowling is your answer to this question. She loves big government. What's hilarious is she even writes about the dangers of a controlling government, yet she is fine with the government doing everything for you.
