It will still have massive ratings in the USA. There is a reason fox payed so much god damn money for the rights to coverage. Even without the USA it will do well.
There are a ton of intriguing matchups and if casuals would just give it an honest shot on one of the opening matches, like Iceland and Argentina, Mexico and Germany, or Spain and Portugal... it will capture a solid 75% of their interests.
I’m not gonna sugarcoat it domestic leagues like; obviously the MLS, but even leagues like the premier league or la liga(probably the two most popular in the world at this point) are not going to be those 75% of casuals cup of tea but, the World Cup is just a whole different beast when it comes to the passion and weight of the World Cup.

I'm all in on Germany since we didn't qualify.

Never have, never will.

Nope. It will be a non-event in the US. Sets US interest in soccer back by 5-10 years. Good.

You think interest in the sport is going to be set back by 5 to 10 years

Of course. Plenty of teams that play much better soccer than we do. It's the greatest sporting event in the world.

quote:Absolutely. Had the US made it there would have been a nice blip up in interest. Had they won a game or two it would have been a significant leap. That's not going to happen now.
