Opiate epidemic and addiction

Reading the first few responses of the other thread was painful. A lot of people here are so ignorant to the disease of addiction. Big Pharma defenitly plays a huge part in this and the overprescribing of opiates. It started with liquid pain pills after a surgery for me, then moved to roxies, and eventually heroin for years. Once I put any substance in my body, the phenomenon of craving starts to kick in and it’s not a will power thing anymore. I can’t say no because that’s all I think about or “crave.” Nothing else did the trick. And most to all people in recovery have this same experience. I started drinking at 14 and was a blackout drinker from jump. I never understood how someone could leave a drink half finished. Now, it was my choice to take that first drink or drug but after drank, snort, or shot it, I lost the power of choice.

You never lose the power of choice. Ever. You can always choose to get help and not keep feeding the addiction.

People on here love to label pain sufferers "addicts" when there's people out there like my cousin who has fibromyalgia and if he doesn't get his fibromyalgia medicine he gets nausea, diarrhea, cold sweats, it's almost like he has the flu
Sure not everybody out there needs opiates like if they're just getting a little surgery or something but there are people out there with real chronic diseases that need them every day and can't hardly miss a dose

That’s terrible.
I feel sorry for you. I used to wonder how people got addicted to anything. When you can’t control yourself, that’s scary.
Just stay sober. It beats the alternative. Good luck.

Didn't SS get rolled up recently?

Eventually I got help, but I didn’t choose it at the time. Even though I was MISERABLE, I’d still continue to try and use no matter what. I don’t stop until I’m either in jail, treatment, or dead. And I’ve been all three of those at different times throughout my life, and continued to use afterwards. Eventually I was out of shite to sell and my family physically removed me from where I was and dropped me off at detox. They told me to figure it out. And I was so broken I was willing to do anything after some time in treatment and being out of my element.

He did. Haven’t heard if he made bond.

Props for choosing to get help. I know it’s not easy.

That’s not the fibromyalgia acting up. Those are withdrawals from the pills he’s got himself addicted to.

What did SS do to get arrested? Or is this a joke? I know he struggled in the past but thought he had gotten past it.

No. Jones gave me the link a week ago or so.

Not kidding with y’all about the guy. I felt bad when I saw it, cause I used to rip him about drugs. He looks like a normal guy in the mug shot. Kind of gay, but otherwise normal. None of us would think he’s an addict.
