Roy Moore is 70.
Best case scenario for him would only be two terms as he would be pushing 85 if he tried for a third.
Richard Shelby is still going strong at 83. It wouldn't shock me if Moore followed suit at that age.

Hopefully for Alabama's sake, there will be a contested primary in 2020 after Roy Moore inevitably embarrasses himself enough times.
We have 20+ years of Moore embarrassing himself and the state, yet here we are. His supporters don't care and unfortunately they make up a plurality of the primary voters.

I was talking about in the Strange-Brooks matchup.
Still had an impact and it was enough to keep Strange from the outright 50%.

Strange's ties to Bentley and how he got the seat was a bigger impact.
He could've survived that if he didn't trash the shite out of Brooks and associate so closely with Mitch McConnell.

This is why I don't get why Republicans squeamish on Moore, don't just vote for Jones knowing they can easily beat him in 2020. It's only 2 years he holds the seat, and the chances of him being able to singularly impact the abortion issue in any way is nil. That issue seems to be the only one a lot of them mention.
Not talking about the Moore supporters, or the party loyalists that simply don't want a D to win. Talking just about the informed R voters that don't like Moore. There's probably enough of them to turn the election.

Brooks and Strange were both fighting for the runoff spot against Moore.
This isn't the way I saw it. It looked to me like Strange/McConnell saw Brooks as the bigger threat. Consequently, they spent all of their time/money attacking Brooks as a never-Trumper.
Neither Brooks or Strange campaigned at all against Moore.

It seems like every election he's won, it's always the other candidates completely fricking it up and Moore is somehow able to sneak in to the win himself while the other candidates are still brawling it out.
But still there's something to be said about the national stage like the senate being a bigger platform and his every step and action being more amplified and I hope that works into primarying him in 2020.

He was...for the 2nd runoff spot against Moore.

Like I said, they both knew there was little chance of them peeling off Moore supporters. Moore was going to get his ~30% of the vote, regardless. Neither of them could count on that, so they had to go after each other. Strange just did so more aggressively.

Again, not exactly how I remember it. People thought Strange's "deal" with Bentley was shady, but Strange lost all chance of winning the runoff when he aligned himself with McConnell.

And had the audacity to ask for his endorsement after.
If I was Strange in that scenario, I would've left Brooks alone and let him make the decision himself.
Pressuring him would just piss him off and get him to endorse Moore and that's exactly what happened.

Nope. They seat according to seniority

Hail, you seem to be better educated and have more dignity and self respect than a lot of the other Trumpkins. Does it bother you that your party is about to send a child molester to the Senate?
If it's proven that he's guilty of that, we'll just remove him (unlike the Dems who refuse to resign and are backed by the highest ranking congressional members from their party).

There are. Problem is, as bad as Moore is, his votes as a Senator would reflect their values 90% of the time. As opposed to Jones, who they are at odds with on just about every issue.

Jones would be a one term Senator. His only chance to keep his seat would be to really vote with the GOP on the big items like taxes or healthcare. If he went lockstep with the Democrats, even someone like Twinkle Cavanaugh would beat him handily.

I think a lot of R voters that you speak of are thinking that Moore will be handled in some way after he wins. Either by ejection or some sort of censure. Too many people just see it as a Red vs Blue contest and they'll find some justification to stay in their camp. They'll pull the lever for Moore or not show up. Jones needed them to crossover and I don't think Jones has done an adequate job of luring them to his side. The first round of accusations have been digested now and I don't think those voters crossover unless another round of them come out. As it is now, Moore will win and will be seated in the Senate. The line "The accusations were litigated by the Alabama voters" will be paraded around.
To your point, not many people you speak of are considering the fact that AL will effectively be down a Senator. Moore will be a leper in the Senate. Not many people will be looking for him to co-sponsor bills and given his history, he won't be fighting too hard to attract businesses or allocate resources to Alabama.
But at least the seat is still Red!!!! Take that Pelosi and McConnell!

I believe Moore is going to win, and Alabama will hold first place in most backwards hypocrites in the USA. This is worse than the Catholic Church acting above the law and just recycling child molesters instead of turning them into the law. Good luck with fondling Roy.

That's your opinion; not one I share, but you're free to have it.
And no way Alabama has the market cornered on hypocrisy. Look what's going on in DC.

Eventually progressives and excommunicated theocrat Never trump conservatives are going to learn that by making every election a moral and/or intellectual barometer that they’re only helping the candidate they don’t want to win

Jones needed them to crossover
He seems to be doing a decent job pulling parts of the Birmingham suburbs over, but I have no idea how that extrapolates out to the entire state. I did notice several Jones yard signs in rural Etowah, St Clair and Blount Counties when I was up that way hunting last weekend. More D signs than I've ever seen since hunting up that way the past 20 years.
His bigger problem seems to be the lack of enthusiasm from black voters.
