Again, you are speaking from a position of moral indifference. Tell you what, let Al Franken take a picture with your mother or wife or daughter, cupping their breasts while they struggle to move his hands and object. You think he deserves to apologize to someone now? Go and stutter somewhere
Depends on the context I would imagine.

You are a sad person if you think gestures like apologies, even if all they do is symbolize something and are token, are unwarranted anymore.
I think OP was pointing out the hypocrisy in liberals more than saying apologies are pointless.

oh he got it...why do you think it pissed him off so badly?

It makes me happy to see so many Christians on here. We should start having bible study threads
Because spreading words from a book filled with outdated hypotheses that's appropriately considered dead in modern academia is good for progress.

i don't read the bible. it has no value to me, but i'm not going to start saying outrageous shite like that.

You know what's more pathetic than having to apologize for groping a woman?
Bragging about groping women when you really don't and then apologizing about that

okay...I'm easy...into the weeds I go.
In the Big Picture of SUBJECTIVE REALITY - to the ultimate extent that we experience and validate the kind of Reality which we prefer (even the existence of God, creating our OWN subjective Universe/Infinite Parallel Universe/"many mansions") the effect of Prayer becomes essentially a VALIDATION of our preferred Intent. Intent is big, as it defines the desired and ultimate Character and Reality; this assuming we have that choice, given either our mastery of Knowledge/Truth/Power or simply the Gift of Mercy from the Good Lord. To each their own, whether they accept the Gift...or prefer to hack their way through the hard way...and make the Creator proud (per "the Prodigal Son" narrative.
Prayer denotes Faith, and strengthens it...and it is scientific fact that Faith changes empirical Cause and Effect Principle; just like in Quantum Physics wherein mere OBSERVATION changes same. Or when the Tigers take the field against a superior opponent. Or whatever worthy challenge a warrior faces.
The Good Lord said that "if ye have faith as a mustard seed you can say unto a mountain to be cast into the sea...and it will be so". Those of us who understand the Parable therein...given the Knowledge of today...know what this means. And it means that our Faith ultimately determines our Reality.
I don't necessarily often do the dogmatic version of Prayer...but I never cease to affirm/validate the Good which I desire to become Reality. And I NEVER demean them that practice the simple, traditional version nor the power and the empirical affect that Prayer has re our Reality. Both Worldly and Spiritual; which are one and the same...in the Big Picture. Nor do I demean the belief (non-belief) of the Post/Poster which I respond to.
Bottom line. Prayer matters. At least to them who so believe. It's all SUBJECTIVE.

I knew somebody would stoop to this level despite understanding the point.
Sure it's studied like greek mythology. It's profound influence on culture as well yada yada yada. It's really just a history lesson at this point.
Talking burning bush, talking snake, zombies, flooded earth, Noah's Ark, unicorns, man's life inside of a whale, sea monster, virgin birth, All of the 6 day creation problems, Men living for 100's of years, magic tricks, "prophecies", Eden, Giants, The Exodus, Blood river, Woman turns into a pillar of salt, Star of Bethlehem, Resurrection, Sun and Moon standing still, Melchizedek, fetus jumps for joy, Earth sits on Pillars... and on and on..
I don't think we need to spread this kinda crap any further.

the guy said something about bible study. you know, something people do. you went off the rails about it having no importance in academia as if that was relevant to what he said...and you know that. you said something incredibly stupid while attempting to talk down to someone with some kind of intellectual authority that you do not possess
quote:i'm just guessing you haven't given this much thought. it's actually much more relevant than greek mythology since it has had one of the largest impacts (for better or worse) on western society and the civilization that spawned western society (rome)
Sure it's studied like greek mythology
