If you have a dark paint color, I would advise against it. Since the coating is not impervious to polishing, any water spots that are left behind cannot be polished off. My personal vehicle (pearl-colored Yukon) is a decent candidate for it since water spots don't really show. But if I drove something dark, I wouldn't do it.

Plus if you plan to drive through automated car washes, the coating will get scratched up just as quickly as regular paint.

I somewhat disagree.

While water spots are somewhat a problem, overall, I have been happy with my coating. Water spots are a small price to pay for not having all the small scratches and micro abrasions that you get without it.

After 6 months of 2 buckets, grit guards, expensive towels and cloths, I still had marring and imperfections on my black tundra. With the coating, that disappeared. I still hand wash it, roto washes will scratch it.

I did get it redone after 1 1/2 years/36k miles, waterspots were starting to build up. It wasn't especially needed, I just wanted the waterspots gone. It still was protected against scratches.
