Imo, it has always been pretty much a "B" level series. The first season was consistently good and definitely worthy of hooking people in. It probably helps that it was short. After that it has always been pretty hit and miss with really bad lulls, questionable acting, and the occasional really fun high points. At this point there have only been 2 good episodes in the last 2 seasons. This is the worst lull of the series, but it isn't the first. I guess the difference is now they are fricking up the episodes that are supposed to be the high points when in the past they generally did a pretty decent job of hitting them. There's so much convoluted bullshite going on right now.

The first season was really the only one that i would say was produced at a high level. Every season since it seems like they have cared more about making awesome looking zombies than producing a good show. The writing, acting, dialogue has always been very poor. The action for the most part has been decent except for the most recent season long war saga.
