Democrats, on the other hand, have many causes to celebrate - not least among them the victory of Danica Roem, who will become the first transgender candidate to serve in the General Assembly. That would provide reason enough to pop the champagne corks all by itself. But her historic achievement must be all the sweeter because of whom she beat: Del. Bob Marshall, the state's most strident social conservative and co-author of the now-defunct Marshall-Newman amendment banning same-sex marriages.
