The specific items they sell are not cheap, pretty high margin (I think) and, in the case of point shoes at least, not long lasting. Don't think they were killing it but I'm sure they broke even.

One Saturday right before high school graduation, my buddy and I were drinking a few beers and decided to go to The Get Wet shop and buy some Speedo's to wear at the beach on senior trip. Yeah, we were totally pull off "that look."
