There was no need to play for the big inning that early. That's the point you're glossing over. Absolutely, being down matters and changes approaches. But that doesn't change the fact that they had plenty of opportunities early on

In the first two innings they had two on with 1 out and got nothing against a pitcher that was not performing very well in his own right.

down 5-0, they may have felt they needed to play for the big inning, which is why they didn't play small ball.

which goes back to my point- the primary blame needs to go to the guy that put them in that 5-0 hole, after doing the same in a game 3 loss.
