My kids were literally run over by teenage outsiders who weren't even in costume.They were hitting each house multiple times until the owners refused to give them candy

Doesn't bother me. I don't like teenagers trick or treating, especially without a costume. Otherwise, as long as the kids aren't disrespectful, I don't care where they live.

I think that's the difference. People don't mind high volumes of normal trick-or-treaters. Some neighborhoods are flooded with packs of unsupervised kids. These aren't 7 year olds with mom & dad showing them a good, safe time. It's teenagers ringing the doorbell after 10:00.
