The treated wood today does not use the same chemicals as 21 years ago. My personal issue is my deck over the water goes underwater a couple of times a year. This caused the wood to expand and contract and crack and fail. I am installing Ipe in the spring with stainless fasteners

I am planning an outdoor deck...most likely going with Brazilian hard wood (IPE) and stainless fasteners. Why I changed my mind from composite -- mine is a roof top deck, in direct sunlight, composite gets very hot, seems to retain heat.
