the problem with not getting Cousins (or more expensive 5) is that Davis doesn't want to play center at all, it seems. Baynes at $4M isn't playing more than token minutes....that leaves Davis spending more time at the 5, which appears to be a no go.

and that severely limits how you can build a team around him. to me, he's not a top 5 guy in the league because he seems adamant, at this point, about being a 4. that makes team building much harder (of course it doesnt matter b/c Demps). we saw them play pretty well, given other roster problems, with Davis at 5 from xmas to asb. that's his spot.

still way too early to give up on this year, but if it goes sideways, they should absolutely explore trades for him, aside from the whole killing NBA ball in NO problem of course

I really think there's a way you could trade AD and rebuild around Cousins. Trade for Bledsoe to help make sure Cousins stays, even if he just does a short 1 + 1. Then trade AD to Boston for all of their wings. I'm not sure Boston would make that trade in season, but Tatum/Brown/Morris/Smart is really the only way to make the trade work salary wise unless you get a 3rd team involved willing to take Horford and send back a cheaper but competent center.

Bledsoe/Rondo
Holiday/Smart/Moore
Brown/Tatum
Morris/Hill
Cousins/Diallo/Ajinca

It may only go as far as Cousins' control over his emotions will take them, but you have 2 PGs that can help manage him and for once a lot of wing talent that is over 6'4. You can probably get a pick or 2 as well, just not the good one.

Davis started the game on Gasol last night, i don't know if you noticed that. Why would a guy that doesn't want to play the 5, and has a bigger big man on his team now that starts with him, guard one of the biggest most physical centers in the league to start the game?
Gasol wasn't guarding AD, Green was.

I don't give a shite what AD wants at this point. That's not how anyone would build a team in todays NBA. If AD was getting us to the playoffs every year, and was a true superstar, then i'd listen to him, but he's not at this point, so he can shut the hell up and do what he's told.

A competent GM/team with AD would ideally spend the bulk of their money on AD and 1 or 2 other very good offensive players that play the 1, 2 or 3 position. They would have a scrappy center to deal with the bigs of other teams for 15-20 minutes a game, and a big SF, small PF that could play the 4 during small ball lineups with AD at the 5, filling out the rest of the roster with shooters and defensive specialists on small contracts.
