It was huge because people thought, this will be my only chance ever to see E.T. again.
I forgot what Spielberg was claiming but rights this and studio rights that...
Nobody thought it would ever be released on VHS...in fact they even marketed it that way...Last Chance to see E.T.
Man we were suckers.
