The politically correct movement praising big is beautiful is contributing to it.
If a company wants to maximize their profits, then it would be in that companies best interest to not piss off or offend any potential groups of your consumer base. Which is why most companies want to be politically correct, so they won't offend a potential customer.

quote:Actually cheese and butter are good for you. The real problem, actually, is what we consider good and bad foods. Our belief that fat is bad, is based in old outdated flawed data. There is a large study on reddit, where 135,000 participants took place, and it was shown that carb heavy diets increase mortality.
All those stupid Facebook Tasty videos where they add shitloads of butter and cheese aren't helping.
Who would have thought all that sugar would be bad? Turns out Keto is the right way to go, or some similar low carb diet. Also most people think they are eating healthy by eating breads, bagels, pastas, etc, when in fact those are loaded up with carbs, which is processed into sugar by your body. You can get more sugar from a bowl of pasta than a candy bar. Wonder why we have a diabetic epidemic as well?
Then you can add Drs to the list, as many of them give out shitty advice on foods. My Aunt is 180lbs or heavier and is fat. She probably 50-55 yrs old as well, but she keeps saying that her Dr told her she was in good health, and didn't need to lose weight. Me and my dad could no believe that, as she could lose a lot of weight. ALthough I think the Dr liked having her to keep coming in and buying his drugs ($$$$$$).
While Drs know a lot about the body, many are lacking in the nutritional side of things, and what is the best diets. Some are in the know, but many are not.
Also you can throw in the FDA guidelines as a factor in why we so fat. You got to remember that all or most schools will follow their recommendations.

I don't think this has much to do with it, except perhaps to the extent this phenomenon prevents people from researching what is actually making us fat (sugar) and overcoming the stigma attached to eating fatty foods.
It has much more to do with bad food science, and a corrupt food industry and government.

As much as people don't want to admit it, this is a cultural thing. Rural and suburban fans commuter lifestyles. I live up north in a city and it's shocking how few fat people there are compared to when I go home to visit.

as I get older I try to be more empathetic and less judgemental..."judge not lest ye be judged" sort of thing. when it comes to rampant fatness though I just can't do it.
yes sugars and processed foods are a major problem but that garbage doesn't spontaneously jump down a fatty's throat. it is exponentially easier to eat healthy today than it was 15- 20 years ago. diabetes and obesity are sins of laziness and gluttony not scarcity or lack of options.

I find most women my age have given up and are okay with being fat because there will always be some dude that will frick them.
This is very true. A lot of them would probably motivate themselves if no one ever touched them.
