I think your thought is he'd have to be top notch to be noticed, but I just think if you're at the very least average, there will be teams lining up for your services.
How would he have shown anything to teams if he didnt get the opportunity to play?

Jimmy G has looked great in a few games, and was a 2nd round pick. So he is getting interest as a backup

22 year old Brady was a 6th rounder, in our hypothetical he is a backup, and we already know he was not great at this time to "shine in those preseason games."

I am not saying he still wouldnt have made it, but the notion that if another team draft him, he might not have become anything special, is very plausible in Bradys case.

has been talked about alot as a starter. You realize that the guy that was behind him even in New England is a starter in the league now Right? So even if your 3rd string and can play you'll get noticed. This is even more evidence against your case. The only reason Jimmy g isn't traded is because they know he's good and they know brady has a very short shelf life

As has been posted, Brady was a top 10 QB from the his 1st season, so I think it's a safe assumption to say that practice and preseason would have caught the attention of other teams.

But he was better than you're making him out to be.
