With the incentive of promotion clubs will invest more into youth development
Problem is USL/NASL and travel teams get no where near the money from USSF for player development that the MLS does.

Except in the cases where the FA had to step in because clubs could spend money to buy players rather than promote youth. See France and Germany.
Pro/rel would answer some of our problems, but it isn't the cure all that some people are pretending it to be.

They would also invest more if they were able to keep more money from selling players, and having total control on when to sell a player. I'm not against pro/rel, I just think there's easier ways to get us going in the right direction.

Well you just made a case for pro/rel and to ditch the franchise system

No I didn't. What I suggested can happen in both systems.

So you think the owner's will willingly let more money go to the club from a sale in the franchise system ...you'd have to threaten them with death probably.

The league not the club gets a majority of the transfer fee bc they own all players contracts
So yes you did make an argument to ditch the franchise system

Some of you are completely ignoring what happens without FA intervention. The pro/rel system wasn't working in France to the degree that the French FA took youth development out of the hands of the clubs entirely. The German FA had to mandate that all clubs have a working youth academy had helped provide funding for coaches, because the clubs aren't going to use that money for development.
You people are idealizing the pro/rel system but don't see the forest for the trees.

You can still have the closed system while letting the teams own the player contracts.
In no way does that require pro/rel.

It takes a mix of both, but no one believes the USSF is serious about youth development until pay to play is gone.

I dot know, I only pay attention to a few leagues. But what difference does it make? Just because others don't do it, doesn't mean it won't work. How many have tried it?

Bc there is a proven blue print from multiple countries on how to do it.
Our way is not working and the USSF won’t change clearly

This whole conversation is a microcosm of why US Soccer has basically reached it's apex....at least for the rest of my life.
There are people here arguing with methods that are proven to allow national soccer federation to work with the leagues of that nation to promote, fund, and perfect player development.
There are people here arguing about why we can't use these methods as it pertains to the US and MLS....which is what has been going on with the USSF and MLS for years (granted both are imperfect for sure). It's not that they can't get on the same page....it's that they won't. That will keep us where we are right now.

The evidence indicates you need a guiding light from the FA, but relying on the clubs to produce youth players by themselves is literally an idea from the 1980s. It doesn't work like that anymore and we all know it doesn't. We want pro/rel to punish the investors who sit on their arse, yes, but nothing inherent about pro/rel produces top quality talent. The USSF could take the clubs out of the equation completely and subsidize development, but I don't see anyone calling for that. Why is that? Why are we decentralizing talent development when evidence indicates, in the French and German models, that it requires centralization?
We won't ever achieve the Spanish model, and the Spanish model would only works because the Spanish FA decided that playing the possession based game is the only way Spain could compete.
But let's keep idealizing the pro/rel model as a salve for all our issues.

So we've tried our way....and we've seen it's apex. If you are OK with that you also have to be OK with what happened in this cycle.
That's OK you just have to own it.
I'm still puzzled as to why we refuse to even try methods that have been used over and over and have worked over and over.

I'm advocating for change. I'm just saying pro/rel isn't the only solution.

Our way hasn’t worked for two generations
US soccer will always be stuck
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results
