Why Canada don't choose like 4 pass plays that he knows has a high efficiency rate of being completed regardless of personnel whether that be Chark, Dillion, Gage, Davis etc., run those plays 15 times a piece at practice, spend a damn hour on if needed. Don't tell me oh the O line sucks either. Whatever happen to an 8 yd hitch, 10 yd out, 7 yd slant??? Passing plays to move the chains combined w/ the running game. Pick and choose be selective when to hit em deep. BTW I thought we did a good job of doing this very thing against BYU. I don't get for the life of me why the last 4 yrs or so, it's like pulling teeth for us to complete a damn normal pass.

preach it brother! my brother and I were watching the game saying this over and over.

we need the 5-10 yard passes that can't hardly be stopped.

it is obvious to me that every defense we play, going back to the leonard fournette era, sets up to stop the run, esp. guice. they do not respect any other part of our offense. we must make them pay and pay and pay with first downs until they do respect the rest of our offense.

If Canada trusted DE, he would.

It’s obvious he doesn’t.

You may be right but if he don't trust DE to complete Jr high pass routes like this, we are in for a world of hurt.

I agree for years it's been run, run, pass, punt.

I think we only had 2 three and outs yesterday.

And I don't know what game y'all are watching, but those routes are there, Etling is just not that good at reading defenses and going through his progressions. He's tough and gritty and a good leader, and his arm is not a problem, but he just doesn't have the mental quickness required for the position at this level. It's becoming quite obvious why the coaches took so long to name him the starter.

You bring up a good point, maybe he is slow to go through his progressions. If those routes are there, I just can't get over that he isn't efficient enough to complete a decent percentage of them over the course of an entire game.

Etling has had those opportunities many times and just hesitates to often. The pass where he missed DW wide open was a bad misread. He should have seen that the db didn't follow when DW motioned. And when Sullivan first cuts the db isn't near him Etling sees Sullivan make the but he waits too long to throw. If he throws as soon as SS cuts he hits him. But maybe then we run out of time and don't get fg off. It worked out cuz we got the 3.

Check out @RossDellenger on Twitter to see a couple of the plays where Etling made the wrong read. The pictures also give a good example of what kind of routes are available. 8 yard crossing routes, 5 yard outs, 10 yard outs, backs going out into the flat, etc. It's all the routes you dream of. Just not hitting them.

Or, if you're not on Twitter, they'll be in his column in the Advocate tomorrow.

What the hell...why is this thread anchored? I hate when I spend time writing shite only to realize the fricking thread is anchored.

Let me try to explain this again.. LSU has not recruited talent from HS that run a pass heavy offense in years. PERIOD! (1) Starting with the QBs that LSU has recruited for a vey long time have mostly all been dual threat athletes. Not from pass heavy, run and gun HS systems. (2) Receivers: Again most did not come from a HS system that threw the ball 40-45 per game and 100 times everyday at practice. Subsequently they all do not run sharp crisp routes and none of them are proficient at improvising after the pocket breaks down. Most stand there like deer in headlights expecting the QBs to run instead of knowing the QB is looking to throw them the ball. (3) The OL recruits suffer from the same fate. Our line has not been throughly taught and drilled to PASS BLOCK from little league through HS so when they get to college and are asked to block SEC tackles, well it's a challenge. And you are not going to change this just because you hire an OC like Canada. It will take a philosophical change in our offensive strategies to ever be able to consistently pass the ball often and effectively. I know I am going to hear it for saying this but the pendulum will not swing the other way until Brennan, Helaire, Williams, Moreau, Davis, Carter, Charles, Deculus and the rest of the young players LSU currently have that are our future are on the field playing all at the same time.

What causes that? I enjoy people responding to it because we all know this is what's got us behind the 8 ball.

An admin who decided the thread didn't deserve to live, but it didn't deserve to be executed either. So they just anchor it so it can slip into the abyss (page 2)

Coached for 14 years and now involved in college recruiting. I have seen what it takes for a team to throw the ball as a game plan and be good at it. A QB with a lightning fast release, consistent accuracy and courage in pocket. Receivers that run routes like their lives depended on it. running backs that pick up the blitz just as aggressively as they stick it in the end zone from the 5yd line on 4th and goal and linemen that block like their moms are in the pocket. You get those elements together and you have a passing game.
