I have a feeling that when the state reports are released in October we will see that the vast majority of those 33K jobs lost are directly due to the hurricanes.
Of course the obvious fact is that the hurricanes will probably result in the creation of double that many jobs in the near future to clean up and repair the destruction.

Huh? The report makes it clear that the hurricanes did no favors for the economy last month. How is that capitalizing? That's what happened.

You are gloating in the job decline numbers.

Why didn't you highlight the fact that unemployment dropped from 4.4 to 4.2% even with the downward spiral you posted?
That's seems more positive than negative doesn't it?

The post above yours would be a good start.

If unemployment went down, and jobs did as well, then that simply means that the.2% who dropped off unemployment did so without finding a job. Their unemployment payments simply ran out.

Because how can the unemployment rate actually decline in the face of a net job loss? It's an aberration.

The aberrations, as you call it, started back in 2009 with interpreting unemployment rates that had never been interpreted like that before.

Interesting. We lost 33,000 nonfarm payroll jobs last month, but had an increase of 906,000 employed from August to September and had a decrease of 331,000 unemployed. All other "bad" statistics were pretty much down across the board. Average hourly and weekly earnings were up compared to August.
We are pretty much in a tight labor market. Job seekers pretty much equals job openings. Until structural changes occur in the economy don't expect to get much better numbers on a monthly basis.

Still, they're being interpreted the same way for August and September, so you can't truly have a net decline in jobs and a decrease in real unemployment. Makes no sense

No it certainly isn't . It's exactly how the Obama Administration played with the numbers the entire time they were in power.
Theoretically we could have 100M Americans not working and have 0% unemployement, if those 100M weren't looking for jobs. Which is exactly what we saw under Obama, Disability claims shot through the roof so those people were no longer reporting as unemployed. So it didn't matter if 100K jobs disappeared in a given time period, if no one was looking for jobs, the unemployment rate remained low, while the job loss rate stayed high.
My guess is that without the bogus disability claims we all know happened from 2008-2015 the UE rate would have been double what it was.

Forget about the methodologies for a sec. You can't lose jobs and have fewer unemployed at the same time.

Cahoots, any idea why the stock market isn't being spooked by this?
