Why don't the NFL refs call everything touchdowns (or turnovers)?

It's bullshite that they'll always review a touchdown in New York, but if they call a controversial play in the end zone an incomplete pass, the team has to waste a challenge, and then lose a challenge and a timeout if there's no indisputable evidence.
So why not call everything even remotely close a touchdown and not screw over a team?

Yeah Rams got screwed. Luckily they ended up scoring a TD anyway. That was just terrible.

Because you still want to make the right call on the field. You're putting the defense at a disadvantage at that point

Changes the burden of proof. If they call it a touchdown it has to be indisputable that it's not.

Okay. So let's try this again a different way:
Why should a team lose all their challenges and timeouts if they weren't necessarily wrong, but the camera evidence can't prove that they were right?

Why the shite did they just blow Dalton's pass dead?
Easily could be a backwards pass.
How Cle won't get the TD of the review says it's backwards.

Cleveland just got fricked. You couldn't tell from available replay camera angles. Now they lose a challenge and a timeout.
If they just called it a turnover, they could just review it automatically.

Now the Lions have to waste a challenge for an obvious Abdullah TD.

If you're right you don't lose the challenge.

You know that little "call on the field stands" thing? It's not always conclusive and you can blow a call by calling it wrong on the field on purpose.

I'm not saying deliberately call it wrong. But if it's even close or questionable, err on the side of not taking away timeouts in a close game.
Or, like I said, just don't charge a timeout or make them lose a challenge if there's no proof either way.
It worked the right way in the Jags/Jets game. They didn't blow the whistle or instinctively call it an incompletion. If they called it an incompletion just because, Myles Jack doesn't have a possible game-changing TD.

Just make it like the college system. The NFL challenge system has always been stupid.

Which means you need to use your challenges carefully. Don't risk one in a situation where it isn't important or you're not likely to get the call overturned.

The Refs are just terrible. The Giants got screwed on a 2pt conversion. Odel was knocked out of bounds and came back in to catch the ball. They called illegal touching which is correct but no penalty for being knocked out of bounds to start with. Should have been illegal contact or a PI penalty.
