Went to look him up and see if he had any other controversy documented and found this

quote:

Trevathan was born in Youngstown, Ohio, to Vincent Hicks and Michelle Hicks. His father played college football at the University of Toledo. He attended Leesburg High School in Leesburg, Florida.[1]. He was officially named a "POS" by the entirety of r/NFL.

Video of the hit

quote:

Packers wide receiver Davante Adams, taken the hospital after a frightening helmet-to-helmet hit Thursday by Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan, is showing positive signs, Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy said early Friday morning.

"The news I’ve been given on Davante so far is everything looks positive,” McCarthy said (via the Packers website). “He’s already giving them a hard time at the hospital to get out of there, so that’s a great sign.”

There's also a fake apology quoted in there from Trevathon. I don't believe him so I'm not quoting it.

If you make a possibly life altering kill shot on someone and aren't immediately remorseful then I suspect you did it on purpose and/or are just a sociopath. What you don't do is get up and start talking smack.

Wow that was as dirty a hit as I’ve ever seen. Deliberately lead with the crown right into his facemask. What a piece of shite.

Remove - wasn't aware of the rule change. Receiver wasn't defenseless per NFL rules but still can't lead with crown of helmet regardless of whether receiver is defenseless or not.

Egregious by today's standards but tbh probably wouldn't even draw a flag 20 years ago.

He should be kicked out of the league for that. No place in football for animals like that. They are a danger to the sport.

Legal or not legal it was unnecessary. No reason for it.

Dude is a POS and should be kicked out of the league. If they really take "Player Safety" seriously, players that make hits like this with obvious malicious intent should be thrown out of the league.

Significant suspension without pay is warranted here. Holy hell that was dirty.

That hit was totally ejection- and suspension-worthy. No need for that type of hit. It was a careless play by Danny Trevathan, but I do not think there was any malicious-intent. Trevathan apologized after the game and said he would be reaching out to Davante Adams. I have a hard time believing these guys are out there trying to end careers.

The NFL needs to curb these types of hits, though. A personal foul doesn't do enough to make these guys more-aware of how they play the game.

If the NFL was really serious about this, they'd make an example of Trevathon with a draconian suspension to send a message. But they aren't. I think at this point it will take someone dying on the field for the NFL to get serious about the concussion/head issues in the game. Everything at this point is mere lip service to try and appease critics.
