Here's her cluelessness...it isn't that she was merely insisting on gender neutral pronouns. She was insisting on referring to herself...one person...,in the plural...they, them, their. Set aside the whole gender issue; how can you have a teacher intentionally confusing students on the grammar when so much emphasis is placed on student testing?
A parent should have asked, "You want us to refer to you with they, them, and their? How many people are you?"
If she insisted on gender neutral pronouns, it should have been it and its.
Unless she has multiple personality disorder.

Ok first of all let me just say frick this lady because she's insane. Now that that's out of the way, language is an interesting thing. In Farsi you sometimes refer to respectable figures like teachers or Grand Ayatollah.... as they. The more tha one person pronoun for one individual gives it a higher meaning and is seen in higher levels of reading or listening.
