Seems to be about the same case for NASCAR. At the first of the season I remember seeing one of the top five drivers, an older one that I can't recall the name, but he said his team was losing their major sponsor at the end of this season.
Fandom seems to be be well below normal this season.

It could be that people finally realized that NASCAR sucks and their fans are a bunch of Moutain Dew swillin' hicks.
