I don’t agree with this at all. Saban was a very well regarded head coach and was on the NFL’s radar before he coached a game at LSU. After reviving Michigan St.’s program he took over an LSU team that was 3-8, won an SEC title and Sugar Bowl in year 2 and a national championship in year 4. He didn’t stay long enough to win more titles as I’m sure he would have had he stayed at LSU.

ANY suggestion that there is ANY comparison between what Saban had done before he came to LSU and what he’s achieved since to what Orgeron did before he became LSU head coach and what he might “learn” to do is absolutely absurd revisionist history. He's been a great DL coach and recruiter during his career - that is what he is and for that I give him a lot of credit. We were all thrilled to have LSU hire him as DL coach - he had proven success in that role. But some coaches aren’t meant to be the man responsible for running a program.

And I don’t know that there have been “many” coaches that have become elite as experience grows. If you mean coaches who were never head coaches prior and then became elite, then sure - all great coaches were assistants at one point before getting the chance to be the top guy. But there are select few who were unsuccessful head coaches the first go round who became elite head coaches. I can think of one off the top of my head - Belichick.

This post isn’t meant to bash you. I’m all for being positive, giving a guy a chance. But from the start there have been NO indicators that Orgeron was likely to have championship success at LSU. The final chapter is yet to be written. But based on the available information, the facts, I have no expectation that LSU will have great success under its current head coach. As a lifelong LSU fan I hope I’m wrong. I want to see LSU win more championships.
