Exactly what I was going for

What do you think about the flag code stuff that's been coming out? You aren't supposed to wear it as clothing, but people do it all the time. You apparently aren't supposed to carry it out horizontally, but they do that a ton of sporting events.

Driving so I'll be brief. Obviously it's not new to me. Most military brats are exposed to the flag code at an early age.

The best interpretation of the flag as apparrel is to remember that the flag code is a compendium of voluntary guidelines. Some folks break the code out of ignorance (i.e., flying non all-weather flags in inclement weather), or to display civic pride. And are well within their right to do so on account of the freedom represented by that very flag.

The issue for most is about context. We're all adults....most can figure out whether deviation from the code is done out of a desire to honor the flag or not. That's why most will have no problem with American flag apparel but balk at burning the flag. But neither is subject to governmental reprimand.

The kneeling isn't overtly malicious towards the flag, per se, but the optics and timing of it stick in the craw of many because it takes a common gesture of unity and brief time of focus on the positive, unifying ethos our flag represents and diverts the focus to divisive rhetoric of the hour. This country isn't perfect. No nation is. But if we start turning what few traditional galvanizing moments we have left into yet another forum for focusing on what we disagree upon, we're not doing ourselves any favors, IMO.

Sorry, guess I wasn't brief. It's raining in SA and traffic is crawling
