I PROMISE you if the NFL said "no more kneeling or you're fired", there'd be no more kneeling. That's a fact. You think it's coincidence that no one on the Cowboys has knelt?
It's time to stop spreading this bullshite.

Coach Jason Garrett said Saturday he doesn't expect Cowboys players to protest on Monday night. Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones has said he doesn't like the protests, though it's inaccurate that he threatened to kick players off the team who don't stand during the anthem. That rumor circulated, but SportsDay debunked it here. "I just feel so strongly that the act of recognizing the flag is a salute to our country and all of the people that have sacrificed so that we can have the liberties we have," Jones said recently on 105.3 The Fan's Shan and RJ show [KRLD-FM]. "I feel very strongly that everyone should save that moment for the recognition of the flag in a positive way, so I like the way the Cowboys do it."

Do you think we should force private employers to enact speech codes for their workers?
If by "we" you mean fans, then yes, I would like to see them extend the speech code that already exists to this issue.
If by "we" you mean the government, no that is terrible and nobody has even proposed that. (well nobody is an absolute term, I am sure some moron in the blogosphere has called for that).

But the company would carry on...... Are you saying the quality of the work would take a hit?

Yeah. Maybe I missed something in yall's conversation. Carry on.

I'm sure you do. Everyone does "important work."

Leave your politics away from the workplace. That's pretty standard corporate behavior, especially when you're making seven figure salaries.
Meh, this is why there are owners/stakeholders of companies to set policies like this. I imagine some of the owners will not push back against this.
The only recourse of the consumer (NFL fans) is to watch something else.

I wouldn't judge playing football as important work.

Those players might. What do you do that's "important work?"

Can anyone do the "important work" you do?
Posted on 9/25/17 at 1:14 pm to boogiewoogie1978
Nope, it's just a game...and right now I need football like a hole in the head. None of us "need" football or any other sport to exist. It was designed for purely entertainment purposes and it has since ceased to entertain by injecting all of this stupid political nonsense. The NFL is going down because it refuses to cut all of this nonsense out. You can't do a certain dance after a TD, but they allow all of this anti-American crap while wearing their employer's uniform. It doesn't compute.

Probably not. But that doesn't matter because I don't have the leverage. In the 1980s, air traffic controllers went on strike. They thought they had management by the balls because they performed a highly technical, incredibly difficult, training intensive job that few could do. Guess what- Reagan fired them all and we got controllers that probably weren't as good. Life went on.
Players have no leverage and if the NFL came out and stated "no more kneeling" then there would be no more kneeling. In the same way that if my job stated I'd no longer be able to park in the garage, I'd bitch about it for a few days and then go on working. Because I'd have no real choice, other than find another job.
I'm not upset with the players, I'm upset with the NFL for not interceding in their divisive actions.

Add to that the platform. Cheeseburger lady doesn't have millions of followers, even larger TV audience and a brand with her name.

You also aren't a professional athlete, either. Getting away with shite isn't something new to professional sports. Coaches, other players, and owners have been looking the other way for decades, and this is no different. They won't "fire" their entire team because they aren't financially ignorant. People don't want to watch inferior athletes compete against other inferior athletes. That's why the USFL didn't last. It's why schools like Alabama and Ohio State are more successful than schools like Kent State and UAB.

Not everyone can play in the NFL either.

The last collective bargaining agreement says they do.
Strength in numbers.
Also, top talent always has leverage. This is why they are approached by recruiters and offered more money.

The CBA allows players to disrespect the flag via formal demonstrations?

The USFL didn't last because it competed directly with NFL. Most casual fans can't name more than five players on their favorite team and even less on other teams. If all NFL players were suddenly replaced with guys who run a 4.48 instead of a 4.42 that wore the same helmet, people would still watch.

Did I say that? I said it proves they have leverage.

Right, and it did so with inferior athletes.
Your concession is noted.

You dumb. Any time there are two competing brands, the superior product will win out. If there is only one brand (the NFL), it will still be watched.
