Trump Negotiations lead Mercedes-Benz to build $1 Billion Electric SUV Plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama
Another massive victory for the State of Alabama and the United States of America as well as the American economy, as Mercedes-Benz has announced it will be building a $1 billion plant in Tuscaloosa.
The new facility will be a stage of the art hub for Mercedes-Benz and its plan to switch to having electric vehicles by 2022 for each of its current models.

From your article. Now it's going to be fun to watch the board do mental gymnastics to support this because Trump was supposedly involved, while at the same time shitting on Elon Musk because he's a welfare queen.

Do we have enough affordable lithium in the ground to even make electric cars for everyone real?
I doubt that.

So the people get more money through jobs and the government gets less money through taxes. And you have a problem with that?

You think this plant is going to build electric cars for "everyone"? Yikes.

You realize that a tax credit is more than just government getting less money? It's government giving additional money away over and above the tax that would be owed.

Actually, it's not. Mercedes is still a net payer.

How do you know that when they haven't even released the full details of the incentive package? The tax credits could easily exceed all other taxes. A lot of the taxes are probably abated too.

Key word there.
I suspect there may be enough lithium, but the amount of environmental damage that will be wrought to get it will be incredible (and, ignored by climate change acolytes).

Seriously I don't think I ever read an article in the 8 years Obama was in office that had the sentence "Obama led-negotiations brings 1 billion dollar plant to ....."

Alabama Commerce Secretary Greg Canfield said that while the specific details of the state's incentive package for Mercedes-Benz agreeing to build in Alabama are still being negotiated, because the timetable and scope of the project is still being determined, this is a huge boost for the state which is growing at a record pace as an industry leader.
He said the package will include statutory incentives, performance-based incentives, statutory tax abatements and tax credits.
So you're worried about Alabama taxes?

It is definitely localized. There has been no indication of any federal incentive or subsidy. I expect the deal will resemble the package that initially lured them to the state.
