Listening to T-Bob and Jordy talking about the depth along the front 7. And it's sickening that only 1 player is starting from the 14 or 15 class along the front 7.

We also have 3 from classes prior to 14 and another one from either or 14 or 15 instead of just the 1 previously mentioned. Injuries and suspensions are hurting the depth there more than experience or numbers. We started three fifth year seniors, a senior, a junior, and two sophomores against State.

ETA: I'm sure that was just an oversight.

the amount of off field issues amongst the DLine guys from 13 and 14 is damn near stunning.

Herron
Quay Bain
Travonte
Trey Lay
Sione Teuhema

4 guys you had to boot, and another who has been in the doghouse for all 5 years it seems.

There's something to be said about "intangibles" in recruiting instead of just size.

Grimes has this belief that he can recruit raw athletic tackles and mold them into good football players which is great in theory. The problem is that it has been proven that he can't. NONE of his raw project tackles have worked out. The guy needs to go!

The days of the 6'5" 310 lb offensive tackle are over. The 6'4", 245 lb,lightening fast DE has put an end to that in college. Recruit more than size.

The 2013 class seemed like a tremendous DL haul at the time

Herron was a 5* (2nd best player in TN)
Gilmore a 4* (#1 player in NC)
Bower was a 4* and a big signing day surprise

As it turned out, the two best players in that class were the two lowest ranked, Lacoture and Neal. Neither were dominant players, but they contributed. The rest of the class has done virtually nothing of note

In 2014 the ONLY good DT LSU brought in was Godchaux. 2015 saw LSU get NO DT's

That's a 3 year period where essentially only 1 impact DT was signed

You hate to always talk about them, but they're the benchmark. Bama's dominance has largely been due to the dominance along the DL. Clemson started to become a force when they started signing guys like Shaq Lawson, Christian Wilkins, Dexter Lawrence, et al.

The 2019 recruiting class is there for the taking for LSU along both lines.

Obviously it's VERY early, but the current rankings show LSU has 2 OL's who are ranked in the top 20 nationally. The #1 and #2 players overall are D-lineman with Louisiana ties.
